Application Notes
This affinity-purified antibody has been tested for use in ELISA, immunohistochemistry and western blot. Beta actin present in fibroblast connective tissue stains very brightly. Beta actin present in neuromuscular junctions also stains. Paraformaldehyde fixation yields brighter staining than formalin or methanol fixation. Expect a band at ~42 kDa in size corresponding - beta actin by western blotting in the appropriate cell lysate or extract.
Theoretical MW
42 kDa.

In vertebrates 3 main groups of actin isoforms, alpha, beta and gamma have been identified. The alpha actins are found in muscle tissues and are a major constituent of the contractile apparatus. The beta and gamma actins coexist in most cell types as components of the cyto-skeleton and as mediators of internal cell motility. Beta actins are highly conserved proteins that are involved in cell motility, structure and integrity. Beta actins are cytoplasmic proteins ubiquitously expressed in all eukaryotic cells. Polymerization of globular actin (G-actin) leads to a structural filament (F-actin) in the form of a two-stranded helix. Each actin can bind to 4 others. This antibody serves as an excellent loading control.

FAQs for beta-Actin Antibody (NB600-505). (Showing 1 - 5 of 5 FAQs).

  1. Why is beta actin used as a loading control in blotting ?
    • Beta actin is a highly-expressed protein found in all cells, and is considered a house keeping protein whose expression is necessary for any cell's proper functioning. For this reason it is used as a loading control to confirm that the same amount of total protein is loaded in each lane of an SDS-PAGE gel so that appropriate comparisons can be made between the actual proteins of interest in different samples.
  2. Are the beta-Actin antibodies validated in Simple Western?
    • Yes, we offer a few beta actin antibodies that have been tested in Simple Western: NBP1-47423, NB600-501, NB600-532, NB600-503, and NB100-56874.
  3. Do Beta-Actin antibodies come in lyophilized format?
    • ACTB antibodies like MAB8969 AND MAB8929 come in lyophilized form.
  4. What the theoretical molecular weight for Beta-Actin antibodies?
    • The TMW of beta Actin antibodies is approximately 40 - 42 kDa.
  5. What is the immunogen sequence of this Beta-Actin antibody?
    • A sequence corresponding to amino acids 359 - 368 of beta Actin.
