The MAPK/ERK pathway is involved in the regulation of a variety of growth and differentiation pathways through several phosphorylation cascades. The signaling cascade is activated by a number of receptors including RTKs, integrins and ion channels which then transduce the signal to adaptors which eventually activate Raf, MEK1/2 and ERK, the core components of the pathway. Erk regulates transcription factors c-Myc, c-Fos, and CREB via phosphorylation.
