An epitope is the portion of a molecule to which an antibody binds. Epitope tags are artificial epitopes, also known as antigenic determinants, which are engineered into a protein sequence by placing the sequence encoding the epitope within the same open reading frame of the protein encoded by the gene sequence. Epitope tags are generally composed of amino acids and range from 10-15 amino acids in length. Epitope tags are usually engineered onto either the N- or C- terminus in order to minimize tertiary structure disruptions that may alter protein function. The use of protein tags and tag antibodies is a useful tool for immunoassays. Epitope tags are peptide sequences that are recognized by anti-epitope tag antibodies. Myc antibody preparations detect Myc proteins encoded by the Myc gene. Myc protein binds to the DNA of non-Myc genes. Mutation or over-expression of the protein can cause cancer, but it can also be used as a useful marker. The Myc antibody used will correspond to a specific protein band.
The c-Myc protein is involved in cellular differentiation, proliferation and apoptosis. It is detected by the c-Myc antibody in a variety of in vitro techniques.
C-Myc antibody assays are used to detect elevated c-Myc levels in tumor cells. However, c-Myc antibody is routinely used in all areas of cell differentiation, proliferation and apoptosis research.
Studies using c-Myc antibody have shown that the c-Myc protein is essential for the development of tumor cell development in vasculogenesis and angiogenesis. These findings have helped to develop a new cancer therapy.
Green Fluorescent Protein, commonly referred to as GFP, forms part of the bioluminescence mechanism in the jellyfish, Aequorea victoria. It has become a useful tool when used as a fusion protein in gene studies. As a fusion tag, GPF can be used to localize proteins, to study their movement, or to research the dynamics of the subcellular compartments where these proteins are targeted.
GFP antibodies are used in a range of applications, including: immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry, microscopy and immunoprecipitation. Our rabbit polyclonal anti-GFP antibody (catalog number: NB600-303) gives a particularly strong signal. In Western blot analysis, this GFP antibody detects expressed recombinant GFP fusion proteins in cell extracts; it is also useful on formalin-fixed mouse sections. This GFP antibody has also been used in HRP-immunohistochemistry on whole-mount mouse embryos.
The human influenza hemagglutinin (HA) epitope is derived from the active protein on the HA virus. HA is tagged onto proteins for study and analysis, and is detected using the HA tag antibody. This detects the HA cleavage site.
The HA tag antibody is used in Western blot, ELISA and immunocytochemistry tests. We offer both monoclonal and polyclonal HA tag antibody products from a number of mammalian species.
The V5 tag antibody is used to detect the V5 epitope tag in immunoassays. The V5 epitope tag is derived from the simian virus 5 (SV5) and is used as a marker on proteins of interest. The V5 tag antibody detects the amino acid chain used in the tag, which is usually built with all 14 amino acids (GKPIPNPLLGLDST); although, a shorter 9 amino acid sequence has also been used (IPNPLLGLD).
The V5 tag antibody, as with all eptiope tag antibodies, is widely used in research as tag proteins are easily detectable and have little effect on the protein under study.
