This antibody was produced from a hybridoma (mouse myeloma fused with spleen cells from a mouse immunized with human VEGF-165 recombinant protein).
This antibody detects both human VEGF 165 and 121.

VEGFA is a member of the PDGF/VEGF growth factor family and is often found as a disulfide-linked homodimer. This protein is a glycosylated mitogen that specifically acts on endothelial cells and has various effects, including mediating increased vascular permeability, inducing angiogenesis, vasculogenesis and endothelial cell growth, promoting cell migration, and inhibiting apoptosis. Elevated levels of this protein are linked to POEMS syndrome, also known as Crow-Fukase syndrome. Mutations in this gene have been associated with proliferative and nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy. Alternate transcriptional splice variants, encoding either freely secreted or cell associated isoforms, have been characterized. There is also evidence for the use of non AUG (CUG) translation initiation sites upstream of, and in frame with the first AUG, leading to additional isoforms.

  1. Why is the molecular weight of VEGF different from the similar antibody, for some companies the the molecular weight is 40KD)?
    • I can't comment on another company's antibody because I don't have any information about their products. I can tell you that VEGF is expressed in a variety of isoforms and is subject to various post-translational modifications that influence its apparent molecular weight in an SDS-PAGE gel compared to the theoretical molecular weight.
