Background

Transforming Growth Factor beta 3 (TGF beta 3) is a member of the TGF beta family of growth factors. The TGF beta polypeptides are multifunctional, capable of influencing cell proliferation, differentiation, and other functions in a wide range of cell types. The multi-modal nature of TGF beta is seen in its ability to stimulate or inhibit cellular proliferation. In general, cells of mesenchymal origin appear to be stimulated by TGF beta whereas cells of epithelial or neuroectodermal origin are inhibited by the peptide.

1. I am looking for a way to measure TGFbeta3 protein after having observed a decrease in its mRNA. Literature suggest that most labs look at the secreted TGFbeta in the cell serum with ELISA kits. Your kit is aimed at human TGFbeta3, has it been validated against murine one as well? If not, do you think that a Western on a whole cell lysate might still give me idea about the protein level changes?
   • KA2222 is produced by a Taiwanese company called Abnova and we distribute it for them. We do no in-house testing on their products. However, a BLAST of human TGFB3 shows that mouse TGFB3 is 97% similar to human TGFB3 so this kit will almost certainly cross-react as TGFB3 appears to be quite conserved across many species.Western blot is sometimes used to measure protein changes. It is by no means quantitative but if you are just looking to see an increase or decrease, this is often considered an acceptable method.
