Background

Insulin is one of the major regulatory hormones of intermediate metabolism throughout the body. The biological actions of this hormone involve integration of carbohydrate, protein, and lipid metabolism. Insulin enhances membrane transport of glucose, amino acids, and certain ions. It also promotes glycogen storage, formation of triglycerides and synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids. Immunocytochemical investigations have localized insulin in the B cells of pancreatic islets of Langerhans. Deficiency of insulin results in diabetes mellitus, one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the general population. Insulin is also present in tumors of B cell origin such as insulinoma.

  1. Will you please recommend me antibodies to insulin, the most suitable for immunohistochemistry in the pancreas of guinea pigs? Desirable to be conjugated with some pigment and there was no need for secondary antibodies.
    • I have carried out a search and the best antibody I recommend is NB600-1488. This is a primary unconjugated antibody however and you will need a secondary. If you click on the product link and then click on related products, a list of all recommended secondary antibodies will appear.
  2. 1) What is the available longest shelf life you currently have in stock? And best recommended storage temperature? 2) Could please recommend another antibody which may pair well with NB100-73008 in Sandwich ELISA? Could you please recommend the type of plate (eg. 96 or 480 well plates, and whether strip or solid) that would be best suited to carrying to the Sandwich ELISA using the above provided antibody and another antibody pair which you may recommend?
    • We recommend storing this antibody at 4 degrees C and do not recommend freezing. This antibody, along with all others, we guarantee for 6 months from date of receipt. If the customer would like to use NB100-73008 as the capture antibody, we recommend NBP1-50246 as the detection antibody. As far as what sort of plate for the customer to use, traditionally, ELISA is done in a 96-well plate, but any medium that the customer would prefer should work just fine.
