Background
The alpha 3 subunit, also known as CD49c and VLA-3 alpha subunit, forms a
non-covalent heterodimer with the Integrin beta 1 subunit (CD29). Integrin
alpha 3 beta 1 is a receptor for laminin, fibronectin, collagen, epiligrin, and
thrombospondin.
