Background
CYP51A1, also known as Lanosterol 14-alpha demethylase, consists of a 56.8 kDa and a 46.3 kDa isoform and is involved in transforming lanosterol by removing the 14alpha-methyl group. Current research is being conducted with several diseases including tuberculosis, antley-bixler syndrome, colorectal cancer, leukemia, immunodeficiency, prostatitis, cholesterol, and chagas disease. This protein has been linked to the cholesterol and steroid biosynthesis, metabolism, and signaling pathways, where it interacts with FA2H, MSMO1, SCD, ZMPSTE24, and FDFT1.
