Background

Human ANGPT1 is a secreted ligand for Tie-2, a cell surface receptor tyrosine kinase expressed in endothelial and hemopoietic cells. This protein is glycosylated and has a fibrinogen-like domain at the carboxy terminus and coiled-coil regions in the amino terminus. ANGPT1 is an angiogenic factor that mediates blood vessel maturation and may be involved in endothelial development. Recombinant human ANGPT1 protein was expressed in E.coli and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques.

  1. We have about 250 microliters of Angiopoietin-1 (NBP1-72477) that we purchased in late 2012. It was accidentally stored at 4 degrees Celsius rather than the suggested -80 degrees Celsius for about six months. We would like to know if you think it would still be viable, or how you would recommend testing for viability?
    • Unfortunately, there is no good way to know the viability of the protein other than simply testing it yourself, as we have never tested our proteins in this manner. I would, however, recommend using more than the recommended amount for your assay as some of the protein will almost certainly have degraded. Most likely there are still functional proteins left in the vial, it will just have to be experimentally determined how much is necessary to obtain optimal results.
