Principal Names: Transglutaminase 2 (C polypeptide, protein-glutamine-gamma-glutamyltransferase) Official Gene Symbol: TGM2 Gene ID: 7052 (Human) Gene Map Locus: 20q12 (Human). Tissue type transglutaminase (TGase II) is historically a member of the transglutaminase family that catalyzes a calcium-dependent acyl transfer reaction between peptide bound glutamine and a suitable primary amine. Transglutaminase has been implicated to play parts in diverse biologic processes such as cell proliferation, deposition and stabilization of the fine structure of the extracellular matrix and in wound repair and fibrosis. TGase II is an effector protein during cell death. The protein is induced by retinoic acid and is the autoantigen implicated in celiac disease. Transcript variants encoding three different isoforms have been found for this gene.
