Background
GATA3 is a 45-50 kDa transcription factor found in the nucleus of T cells, mast cells, and embryonic brain and kidney that contains a GATA-type zinc finger motif. This transcription factor recognizes and binds the GATA core nucleotide motif (A/T) GATA (A/G) and has been shown to regulate T(H1) and T(H2) cell differentiation by directly binding to the IL-5 and IL-13 promoters, remodeling chromatin structure to open the IL-4 locus, and repressing IL-12R beta-2 chain expression. GATA3 has been shown to be induced by IL-4 through Stat6 and can be upregulated by positive feedback. GATA-3 can be modified by acetylation and has been shown to interact with Smad3. The Poly6071 antibody has been shown to be useful for Western blotting of human GATA3.
