Immunocytochemistry/ Immunofluorescence: CD81 Antibody (M38) [NBP1-44861] - CD81 was detected in immersion fixed HeLa human cervical epithelial carcinoma cell line but is not detected in CD81 knockout (KO) HeLa cell line using Mouse Anti-Human CD81 Monoclonal Antibody (Catalog # NBP1-44861) at 15 ug/mL for 3 hours at room temperature. Cells were stained using the NorthernLights™ 557-conjugated Anti-Mouse IgG Secondary Antibody (red; Catalog # NL007) and counterstained with DAPI (blue). Specific staining was localized to the plasma membrane.

Background

CD81 (TAPA-1), a member of the tetraspanin family, is expressed on virtually all nucleated cells, but above all on germinal center B cells. CD81 forms complexes with other tetraspanin proteins, integrins, coreceptors, MHC class I and II molecules, and influences adhesion, morphology, activation, proliferation and differentiation of B, T and other cells; e.g. in muscles CD81 promotes cell fusion and myotube maintenance. CD81 has been also identified as a receptor for the hepatitis C virus.
