Background

The oncogene BCL2 is a membrane protein that blocks a step in a pathway leading to apoptosis or programmed cell death. The protein encoded by this gene binds to BCL2 and is referred to as BCL2-associated athanogene. It enhances the anti-apoptotic effects of BCL2 and represents a link between growth factor receptors and anti-apoptotic mechanisms. Multiple protein isoforms are encoded by this mRNA through the use of a non-AUG (CUG) initiation codon, and three alternative downstream AUG initiation codons. A related pseudogene has been defined on chromosome X.

Western Blot: BAG2 Antibody [NB100-56087] - analysis of BAG-2 using this antibody. HeLa stably transfected Myc-tagged CHIP (<Carboxyl terminus of Hsp70-interacting protein) were immunoprecipitated with an anti-Myc antibody. Immunocomplexes were resolved by SDS-PAGE followed by analysis of BAG-2. This experiment was done to show the colocalization of CHIP and Bag-2. Cells were fixed with 3.7% paraformaldehyde, permeabilized with 0.5% Triton X-100 prior to antibody staining. BAG-2 localized to the cytoplasm of untreated cells, and to the nucleus of cells subjected to heat shock.
