Background

TFII-I is an unusual transcription factor possessing both basal and signal-induced transcriptional functions. It is a founding member of a family of transcription factors characterized by the presence of multiple helix-loop-helix repeat domains. It is involved in histone modification and SUMOylation. TFII-I expression also plays a role in preimplantation development and has been detected in the cytoplasm and nuclei of post-fertilization through first cleavage stage embryos.
