• Application Notes: This PGC-1 beta antibody can be used for Immunohistochemistry on paraffin embedded sections and Western blot. In Western blot a band is observed at ~113 kDa in endogenous samples (~44 kDa in recombinant protein). This antibody has been tested endogenously in Western blot against human skeletal muscle, HeLa nuclear extracts, A673 and DU145 whole cell extracts, demonstrating the correct band but also giving many non-specific bands. A true negative control is strongly recommended to determine the exact band of interest in your positive sample. It has also been used for IHC-P in human cortical neurons.

Background

PGC-1 beta is a tissue specific co-activator that enhances the activity of estrogen receptor alpha. The co-activation function relies on a bipartite transcriptional activation domain and two LXXLL motifs that interact with the AR2 domain of ER-alpha in an estrogen-dependent manner. Ectopic expression of this protein has been shown to lead to increased mitochondrial number and basal oxygen consumption.
