| Application Notes |
This product is useful for ELISA and WB/Immunoblot. The ELISA dilution guideline of 1/4000 applies to synthetic human ghrelin coated directly at 1.0 microgram/milliliter |
Reactivity Notes
It binds human ghrelin and cross-reacts with rat ghrelin. It is presumed to cross-react with ghrelins of other species with identical 14-28 sequences, such as mouse, dog and cat. Please note that this antibody is reactive to Mouse and derived from the same host, Mouse. Additional Mouse on Mouse blocking steps may be required for IHC and ICC experiments. Background
Ghrelin is an orexigenic (food intake stimulating) 27 or 28 amino-acid gut-brain peptide hormone produced by endocrine cells in the stomach, pancreatic islets and certain hypothalamic neurons1,2. Two forms are produced by alternative mRNA splicing; Gln13 or 14 is missing from the second form."Active" ghrelin is acylated (octanoylated) at Ser3; this form stimulates growth hormone secretion via GHS receptors and increases appetite. The des-acyl form does not have these effects but may have other actions. Plasma responses of total ghrelin to food reflect those of active ghrelin3.
