Background
E6AP was originally identified as the ubiquitin-protein ligase involved in human papillomavirus E6-mediated p53 degradation. It has since been shown to act as an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase catalyzing the ubiquitination of several other protein substrates. Ubiquitin E3 ligases are overexpressed in many human cancers and their inhibition leads to growth suppression or apoptosis.
