Background

This gene encodes a muscle-specific class III intermediate filament. Homopolymers of this protein form a stable intracytoplasmic filamentous network connecting myofibrils to each other and to the plasma membrane. Mutations in this gene are associated with desmin-related myopathy, a familial cardiac and skeletal myopathy (CSM), and with distal myopathies. [provided by RefSeq]

  Goat anti-human Desmin antibody used for IHC staining of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded rat's liver sections - endogenous peroxidase blocked with 3% H2O2, endogenous IgG blocked with 3% BSA-1.28% NDS -PBS pH 7.4, primary antibody used at 1:50 dilution and detected with biotin-SP conjugated donkey anti-goat secondary antibody, final detection via anti-biotin conjugated HRP - DAB and counterstaining with Hematoxylin. Desmin was used as a stellate cell marker and the hepatic stellate cells/HSCs are shown in the IHC data image (Fig. 6). The antibody was used for WB also and a single band for desmin protein at 52kDa was observed in the lysates of rat liver (data not shown).
