Alternate Names for Recombinant Mouse Cathepsin E Protein
Background
Cathepsin E (CATE) is a gastric aspartyl protease member of the peptidase C1 family that functions as a disulfide-linked homodimer. Cathepsin E may have a role in immune function. It is most likely involved in the processing of antigenic peptides during MHC class II-mediated antigen presentation. Cathepsin E may also play a role in activation-induced lymphocyte depletion in the thymus, and in neuronal degeneration and glial cell activation in the brain.
Cathepsin E is commonly linked to gastric cancer, and Cathepsin E antibodies have emerged as important reagents for gastric cancer studies.
