ALCAM/CD166 Antibody (L50) Summary

• Specificity: The CD166 antibody, clone L50 was obtained by screening hybridoma supernatants in ELISA against purified recombinant Fc ALCAM. Fc ALCAM consists of the Fc part of human immunoglobulin and the extracellular part of ALCAM. The monoclonal is positive on K562 cells transfected with C-DNA encoding ALCAM and is negative on K562 cells. The monoclonal is reactive with Fc-ALCAM on Western blot. It blocks ALCAM-ALCAM interations and is reactive with the C-type domains.The antibody recognizes an epitope in two domains close to the membrane.

Background

CD166 is highly expressed within the endogenous intestinal stem cell niche. CD166-positive cells appear at multiple stages of intestinal carcinoma progression, including benign and metastatic tumors. Further studies should investigate the function of CD166 in stem cells and the stem cell niche, which might have implications for normal intestinal homeostasis. CD166 has potential as a therapeutic target for CRC.
