Background

RAP80 is an ubiquitin binding protein containing 2 UIM (ubiquitin interacting motif) repeats. It is thought to recruit BRCA1 to DNA damage sites and work with BRCA1 in G2/M checkpoint control. RAP80 also interacts with retinoid-related testis-associated receptor and regulates estrogen receptor alpha. It can act as a transcriptional repressor and inhibits the interaction of NR6A1 with the corepressor NCOR1. At least four isoforms of RAP80 are known to exist.
