Background

Class I phosphoinositide 3-kinases (PI 3-Kinases) are dual-specific lipid and protein kinases involved in numerous intracellular signaling pathways. Class IA PI 3‑Kinases (p110 alpha , beta  and δ) are typically activated through receptor tyrosine kinase signaling, whereas p110 gamma , the single member of class IB, is activated by seven‑transmembrane G‑protein‑coupled receptors (GPCRs). While p110 alpha and beta are ubiquitiously expressed, expression of p110 gamma is mainly restricted to cells of the hematopoietic system.
