LMO4 is a 18‑20 kDa member of the LIM-only (LMO) subfamily of LIM domain-containing transcription factors. The 165 amino acid human LMO4 comprises a trans‑activating Pro-rich N-terminus, two LIM domains, and a LIM-binding C-terminus. The LIM domain is a conserved cysteine-rich structure containing two tandemly repeated zinc fingers involved in protein-protein interaction. LIMs are found in a variety of proteins known to have critical functions in cell-fate specification and differentiation. LMO4 is both nuclear and cytoplasmic. LMO4 is overexpressed in most primary breast carcinomas. Human and mouse LMO4 protein sequences are 100% identical.
