Background
IL15RA is a gene that codes for a protein that is a high-affinity receptor for interleukin-15, and can signal in both cis and trans to neighboring IL2RG-expressing cells, but the expression of different isoforms may interfere with this signal transduction, as isoforms 5-8 do not bind to IL15. The isoforms are all highly expressed in the brain, with isoform 1 being the longest with a 267 amino acid chain and a weight of approximately 28 kDa. Current studies are being done on several diseases and disorders relating to this gene including lymphoma, systemic lupus erythematosus, anemia, inflammatory bowel disease, leukemia, bronchiolitis, rheumatoid arthritis, hepatitis B, gingivitis, lung cancer and Alzheimer's disease. IL15Ra has also been shown to have interactions with SYK, IL2RB, TRAF2, and AXL in pathways such as the IL-15 signlaing, TCR signaling, and IgA production pathways.
