Background

TREML1 is a type I transmembrane protein that differs from TREM in the cytoplasmic region by having two ITIMs (Immunoreceptor Tyrosine-based Inhibition Motif). A splice variant lacking ITIMs in its cytoplasmic domain also exists. TREML1 is found only in platelets and megakaryocytes. The extracellular region of human and mouse TREML1 share 75% amino acid sequence identity.
