SOCS-4 Antibody Summary
| Immunogen |
Synthetic peptide corresponding to C-terminus ofhuman / mouse SOCS 4. |
| Specificity |
Thisreacts predominantly with SOCS 4. The antibodies wereevaluated for specificity with a dot blot assay using synthetically prepared SOCS peptides. It onlyrecognizes SOCS 4, not other SOCS. |

Background
Structually, the SOCS family of proteins are composed of an N-terminal region of variable length and amino acid composition, a central SH2 domain, and a C-terminal motif called the SOCS box. The SOCS proteins seem to form part of a classical negative feedback loop that regulates cytokine signal transduction. Transcription of each of the SOCS genes occurs rapidly in vitro and in vivo in response to cytokines, and once produced, the various members of the SOCS family appear to inhibit signalling in different ways. SOCS4 expression does not appear to be EPO inducible and EPO-independent. Accumulating evidence demonstrates that cytokine receptorsignaling is negatively regulated by a family of Srchomology 2 domain-containing adaptor molecules Termed SOCS (Suppressor of Cytokine Signaling). To date, there are eight members of SOCS family have beenrecognized, they are SOCS 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and CIS. Structurally the SOCS proteins are composed of an Nterminalregion of variable length and amino acidcomposition, a central SH2 domain, and a previously unrecognized C-terminal motif that we have called the SOCS box. The SOCS proteins appear to form part of aclassical negative feed back loop that regulates cytokinesignal transduction via a STAT-induced transcriptionalmechanism. Transcription of each of the SOCS genesoccurs rapidly in vitro and in vivo in response to cytokines, and once produced, the various members of the SOCS family appear to inhibit signaling in different ways. Within the SOCS subfamily, SOCS 4, SOCS 5, SOCS 6 and SOCS 7 remain poorly understood. On the basis ofstructural considerations, it would be expected if SOCS 4 and SOCS 7, like SOCS 1, SOCS 2, SOCS 3 and CIS, acted tonegatively regulated signal transduction, but not surewhich specific cytokine is involved.
