IFN-alpha 1 Antibody (N27) Summary
| Immunogen |
The antibody reacts with the IFN-Alpha antigen. |
| Specificity |
The alpha interferons are involved in virus resistance in target cells for these viruses. They are known to block cell proliferation and to regulate MHC class I antigen expression. The IFNalpha family has pseudogenes in two families (I and II), one with a mature length of 166aa and one of 172aa. Cells producing IFNalpha are lymphocytes, monocytes, macrophages and cell lines such as Namalwa and KGI. Bioassays for IFNalpha include cytopathic effect blocking, by viruses such as VSV, SFV and BMCV, on their target cells. A number of receptors for IFNalpha are now known and seem to be expressed on most cell types. N27 is specific for INFalpha(II) and does not cross react with INFalpha(I). Source: A BALB/c mouse was immunized with E-coli derived, purified recombinant IFN-alpha 2c and spleen cells were fused with mouse myeloma cells NS1. |

| Application Notes |
N27 is one of many MoAbs described by Kontsek et al. (1991) directed against a site different from the two immunodominant sites called I and II. As such it is against an "atypical" site of the molecule. Peptide mapping for N27 has been done by Kontsek et al. Not recommended for IHC-paraffin sections. |
| Theoretical MW |
22 kDa. Disclaimer note: The observed molecular weight of the protein may vary from the listed predicted molecular weight due to post translational modifications, post translation cleavages, relative charges, and other experimental factors. |
Reactivity Notes
Mouse blocking reagent may be needed for IHC and ICC experiments to reduce high background signal. You can find these reagents under catalog numbers PK-2200-NB and MP-2400-NB. Please contact Technical Support if you have any Please note that this antibody is reactive to Mouse and derived from the same host, Mouse. Mouse-On-questions.

Background
The type I interferons consist of 14 different alpha isoforms (subtypes with slightly different specificities), and single beta, omega, epsilon and kappa isoforms. Homologous molecules are found in many species, including rats and mice (and most mammals), and have been identified in birds, reptiles and fish species. Interferon alpha is produced primarily by plasmacytoid dendritic cells and is a potent component of the anti viral innate immune response; it modulates adaptive immunity.
