Background
DGK-gamma (Diacylglycerol kinase gamma) is a 90 kDa, 791 amino acid (aa), type I member of the eukaryocytic diacylglycerol kinase family of enzymes. DGK-gamma possesses EF-hand, C1/Cys-rich zinc finger and catalytic domains, and is highly enriched in the retina and in cerebellar Purkinje cells. Expression elsewhere is limited to inactive isoforms missing kinase domain aa 451-475, or zinc finger aa 333-372. Upon calcium and PKC gamma -mediated activation, it translocates to the plasma membrane. DGK-gamma is also found in the nucleus, where it may promote cell cycle progression. Over aa 1-126, human DGK-gamma shares 83% and 79% aa identity with mouse and rat DGK-gamma , respectively.
