Western Blot: Calretinin Antibody [NBP2-50029] - Western blot analysis of different tissue lysates using chicken pAb to calretinin, NBP2-50029, dilution 1:1,000 in green: [1] protein standard (red), [2] rat brain, [3] rat spinal cord, [4] mouse brain, [5] mouse spinal cord, and [6] cow spinal cord. A band at 29kDa corresponds to calretinin protein. The same blot was simultaneously probed with mouse mAb to alpha-nternexin, dilution 1:10,000 in red that reveals the alpha-internexin protein with apparent molecular weight of 66kDa.

Immunohistochemistry Free-Floating: Calretinin Antibody [NBP2-50029] - Analysis of rat hippocampus section stained with chicken pAb to calretinin, NBP2-50029, dilution 1:1,000 in green, and costained with mouse mAb to parvalbumin, 1:1,000 in red. Following transcardial perfusion of rat with 4% paraformaldehyde, brain was post fixed for 24 hours, cut to 45uM, and free-floating sections were stained with the above antibodies. The calretinin and parvalbumin antibodies label different classes of interneurons.

Calretinin Antibody Summary

• Description: This antibody is supplied as a concentrated total IgY preparation derived from egg yolk. Production involves an initial organic extraction to remove lipids and lipoproteins, followed by salt fractionation of the aqueous phase to precipitate and enrich the IgY fraction. The material is then extensively dialyzed against PBS, and preservative is added during final formulation.
  
  Please note that the exact concentration of target-specific IgY cannot be determined, as the final preparation contains both antigen-specific IgY and non-immune IgY.

Background

Calretinin (CAB29, calbindin 2) is a calcium binding protein that belongs to calbindin family. It is mainly found in neuronal tissue, high expressed in auditory neurons. It has been implicated in as a calcium buffer, calcium sensor, and as a regulator of apoptosis (1). Calretinin is considered as a specific marker of mesothelllal cells; it is the only marker that has the utility in distinguishing between sarcomatoid mesotheliomas and sarcomatoid renal cell carcinomas (2). It is widely used in the panel of makers for distinguishing mesothlioma from adenocarcinoma. Along with calretinin, the panel includes E-cadherin, CEA, and cytokeratin 5/6 (3).
