Background
The CACNG7 gene encodes a type II transmembrane AMPA receptor regulatory protein (TARP) that is 275 amino acids in length and has a mass of around 31 kDA. The function of this protein is to regulate circulation and channel gating of the AMPA receptors by monitoring rates of activation and deactivation, as well as regulating gate desensitization and resensitization as well as stabilizing the calcium channel in an inactivated state. The CACNG7 gene interacts with genes CACNA1C, CACNA1D, CACNA2D1, CACNG3 and CACNB3 and plays a role in CREB transcription pathways, MAPK signaling pathway, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and the BMP pathway.
