Background

Long-chain-fatty-acid--CoA ligase 1, or ACSL1, is an isozyme of the long-chain fatty-acid-coenzyme A ligase family. All isozymes of this family convert free long-chain fatty acids into fatty acyl-CoA esters, and thereby play a key role in lipid biosynthesis and fatty acid degradation. It has also been proposed that altered expression of ACSL1 may have implications for the accumulation of triglycerides in the liver and the subsequent metabolic problems associated with the increased lipid deposition (1).
