Alternate Names for SOX1 Antibody
Background
SOX3 is a SOX (SRY-related HMG-box) protein that shows its homology with SRY, the testis-determining gene. The homology is restricted to the region of SRY that encodes a DNA-binding motif of the HMG-box class (the DNA-binding domain is called HMG for 'high mobility group'). The SOX gene is located on the X chromosomeThis gene is highly conserverd and shows 97.2% similarity to the protein encoded by the mouse SOX3 gene. Along with SOX1 and SOX2, SOX3 coexpresses in self-renewing progenitor cells and act to inhibit neuronal differentiation. Active repression of the SOX genes promotes neural progenitor cells to initiate differentiation prematurely. It helps in pituitary development.
