Background

PlGF is a member of the VEGF family of growth factors, and it binds with high-affinity to VEGF R1. As a result of alternative splicing, three human PlGF mRNAs encode PlGF-1 (PlGF₁₃₁), PlGF-2 (PlGF₁₅₂) and PlGF-3 (PlGF₂₀₃). Normal mouse tissues express only a 158 amino acid precursor that is the equivalent of human PlGF-2.
