MDR1/ABCB1 Antibody (JSB-1) Summary
Immunogen |
The antibody reacts with P Glycoprotein. |
Specificity |
The antibody JSB-1 reacts with a conserved cytoplasmic epitope of the plasma membrane-associated 170-180 kD glycoprotein, the expression of which is strongly correlated with the degree of multi-drug-resistance (MDR) derived MDR cell lines and human MDR cell lines, including cell lines derived from lung, ovaries and B cell lymphomas. cross reacts with chinese hamster. No cross reactivity with mouse or rat. |

Application Notes |
JSB-1 has potential value for diagnostic detection of MDR cells in human tumor samples. Optimal staining results are obtained with routine 2-step ABC or APAAP methods using acetone-fixed cytocentrifuge preparations or cryostat sections. In vitro assay (PMID: 21889999) |

Background
This monoclonal antibody reacts with human Multidrug Resistant (MDR)-1, which is also known as P-glycoprotein (Pgp) and CD243. A 170-kDa transmembrane protein, MDR-1 is an ATP-dependent efflux pump for lipophilic compounds, including anti-cancer drugs. Expression of MDR-1 has been shown to correlate with multidrug resistance. In fact, tumor resistance to chemotherapy has been linked to MDR-1 expression in many cancers. MDR-1 is expressed in a variety of tissues, including the brain, kidney, liver, pancreas, and testes. Within the immune system, this molecule can be found on normal T, B, and natural killer cells, but not on monocytes. This antibody has been reported to inhibit MDR1-mediated efflux.
