• Application Notes: WB: Preliminary experiments gave an approx. 50 kDa band in human tonsil and thymus lysates after 0.5 ug/ml antibody staining. Please note that currently we cannot find an explanation in the literature for the band we observe given the calculated size of 128 kDa band according to NP_005328.2. The 50 kDa band was successfully blocked by incubation with the immunizing peptide.

Background

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the HEM family of tissue-specific transmembrane proteins which are highly conserved from invertebrates through mammals. This gene is only expressed in hematopoietic cells, while hematopoietic protein 2 is preferentially expressed in brain, heart, liver and testis. The function of the HEM1 product has not been established but it is thought to play an essential role in oogenesis.
