Background

The FADS3 gene encodes a 445 amino acid long, 51 kDA fatty acid desaturase 3 protein that, through the introduction of double bonds between carbons of the fatty acids, regulate unsaturation of fatty acids. FADS3 is associated with familial combined hyperlipidemia and coronary heart disease. FADS3 interacts with the UBC gene.
