(e–g) K19 was found to be co-expressed with desmin & vimentin (green), which indicated the origin of epithelial progenitor cells from HSC. (h–k) Also K18, Afp & Mrp2 (red), which served as markers for hepatic differentiation, were co-expressed with vimentin & desmin (green) after 21 days of TUDCA treatment. Cells with different states of maturation were still found after 21 days of TUDCA treatment. Whole slide scanning and capturing of representative images was performed using Aperio AT2 (Leica Biosystems). Cytoplasmic staining in glands was observed.
