Background

SKA2 has been identified as part of a spindle and kinetochore complex that contains at least one other protein, SKA1. The two proteins directly interact with each other. Both are required for proper mitotic progression. During prometaphase the complex associates with the kinetochores afer microtubule attachment. Data suggests that the complex is needed to maintain chromosome alignment along the metaphase plate and for checkpoint signaling.
