Preparation
Method
Novus' biologically active proteins are stringently purified to provide only the safest and most highly effective proteins available. This protein was expressed in E. coli, purified by HPLC, QC tested by SDS-PAGE and Western Blot and validated on appropriate cell lines for bioactivity. All HPLC and bioactivity data is provided for your assurance.
Details of Functionality
SCF protein is fully biologically active when compared to standard. The ED50 as determined by a cell proliferation assay using human TF-1 cells is less than 2.0 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of > 5.0 x 105 IU/mg.

Notes

This lyophilized preparation is stable at 2-8 degrees C, but should be kept at -20 degrees C for long term storage, preferably desiccated. Upon reconstitution, the preparation is most stable at -20 to -80 degrees C, and can be stored for one week at 2-8 degrees C. For maximal stability, apportion the reconstituted preparation into working aliquots and store at -20 degrees C to -80 degrees C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

Background

Stem Cell Factor (SCF) which binds to the c-Kit receptor is produced by fibroblasts and endothelial cells. The soluble and transmembrane forms of the protein are formed by alternative splicing of the same RNA transcript and the presence of both soluble and transmembrane SCF is required for normal hematopoietic function. SCF plays an important role in hematopoiesis, spermatogenesis and melanogenesis and it promotes mast cell adhesion, migration, proliferation, and survival. Soluble canine SCF shares 88 %, 93 %, 86 %, 83 %, 76 %, 76 %, 86 % and 88 % a.a. sequence identity with porcine, feline, bovine, human, mouse, rat, goat and equine SCF, respectively. Cells known to express SCF include endothelial cells, fibroblasts and keratinocytes.

Limitations

This product is for research use only and is not approved for use in humans or in clinical diagnosis. Peptides and proteins are guaranteed for 3 months from date of receipt.
