Background

PGLYRP4/PGRP-I beta belongs to the family of human recognition molecules that bind peptidoglycan and gram-positive bacteria. It is a member of the N-acetylmuramoryl-L-alanine amidase #2 family. PGRP-I beta is primarily expressed in esophagus and has two predicted transmembrane domains and extracellular N- and C-termini. The amino acid sequence of human PGRP-I beta is 75% and 73% identical to that of mouse and rat PGRP-I beta , respectively.
