Recombinant Human alpha -Defensin 5 protein was serially diluted 2-fold and captured by Mouse Anti-Human alpha -Defensin 5 Monoclonal Antibody (Catalog # MAB10248) coated on a Clear Polystyrene Microplate (Catalog # DY990). Mouse Anti-Human alpha -Defensin 5 Monoclonal Antibody (Catalog # MAB102481) was biotinylated and incubated with the protein captured on the plate. Detection of the standard curve was achieved by incubating Streptavidin-HRP (Catalog # DY998) followed by Substrate Solution (Catalog # DY999) and stopping the enzymatic reaction with Stop Solution (Catalog # DY994).

Background

Defensin alpha 5 (DEFA5), also known as human alpha defensin 5 (HD5), is a secreted antimicrobial protein encoded by the DEFA5 gene and a member of the Defensins family. Defensins are thought to kill microbes by permeabilizing their plasma membrane. DEFA5 is expressed in Paneth cells, which are secretory epithelial cells in the small intestine. Unlike other defensins, DEFA5 is stored in secretory vesicles as a propeptide, and is processed into different peptides with different potency and localization.
