Background
COP9 signalosome is a conserved protein composed of eight subunits. Individual subunits of the complex have been linked to various signal transduction pathways leading to gene expression and cell cycle control. CSN1 is the COP9 subunit 1. The C-terminus of CSN1 is responsible for interacting with CSN2, CSN3, and CSN4 subunits. It is required for incorporation of the subunit into the complex. The N-terminus harbors the activity domain that confers most of the repression functions of CSN1.
