Background
TNFAIP2, or TNF alpha inducible protein 2, is a 75kDa protein which has been identified to be highly expressed in cancer cells, particularly nasopharyngeal carcinomas. In these cells TNFAIP2 also appears to promote nasopharyngeal migration (1). TNFAIP2 distinctly may serve as a biomarker for dendritic or histiocytic sarcomas. Abberant expression of TNFAIP2 in these cells in classical Hodgkins Lymphoma or primary mediastinal (thymic) B cell lymphoma also may delineate these cells from other large cell lymphomas (2). Other earlier studies have shown TNFAIP2 to be highly expressed by Northern in lymphoid and myeloid tissues and may be considered to promote myeloid development (3, 4). It is interesting to compare TNFAIP2 in further analysis with, which is another TNFa inducible protein albeit more well-characterized as an apoptotic inhibitor which activates NF-kB.
