Application Notes
This PIEZO1 antibody is useful for Immunocytochemistry/Immunofluorescence and IHC-paraffin embedded sections. In ICC/IF, membrane staining is observed in A431 cells. In IHC-P, membrane and cytoplasmic staining staining is seen in mouse epidermal tissue. Prior to immunostaining paraffin tissues, antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6.0) is recommended.

Reactivity Notes

Human and mouse.

  • piezo-type mechanosensitive ion channel component 1

Piezo1 (Mib, FAM38A) is a mechanosensitive ion channel which responds to mechanically activated currents in numerous cells, including the brain, bladder, colon, kidney, lung, and skin. However, mRNA expression of Piezo1 is weak in the DRG, unlike Piezo2. The expression of Piezo1 is induced in Alzheimer's associated senile plaques (PMID 16854388), as well as integrin activation through R-Ras signaling (PMID 20016066). R-Ras is recruited to the endoplasmic reticulum which increases calcium release, leading to the activation of the protease calpain. Piezo proteins are fairly novel proteins, and whose sequences are not akin to other ion channels or proteins.
