Background

The MXRA5 gene encodes a 2,828 amino acid long, 312 kDA matrix-remodeling-associated protein 5 that contains seven leucine-rich repeats and 12 immunoglobulin-like C2-type domains related to perlecan. Additionally, MXRA5 has a pseudogene on chromosome Y. This gene interacts with genes EIF1B and UBC. MXRA5 has been linked to chronic myocardial ischemia and colon cancer.
