Background

Factor I, a serine protease, is a regulatory component of both the alternative and the classical complement pathway. Factor I is synthesized as a single chain precursor of 88 kDa, processed to yield the active form, composed of two disulfide-linked chains, the alpha-chain (50 kDa) and the beta-chain (38 kDa) . The concantration in plasma is 35 ug/ml
