WB: Preliminary experiments gave an approx. 50 kDa band in human kidney and liver lysates after 0.2 ug/ml antibody staining. Please note that currently we cannot find an explanation in the literature for the band we observe given the calculated size of 21.3 kDa band according to NP_061974.2. We do note that ApoM is a glycoprotein which makes a higher size band to be expected. The 50 kDa band was successfully blocked by incubation with the immunizing peptide. IHC-P: Human liver shows strong stain of cytoplasm in select hepatocytes.

Background
The protein encoded by this gene is an apolipoprotein and member of the lipocalin protein family. It is found associated with high density lipoproteins and to a lesser extent with low density lipoproteins and triglyceride-rich lipoproteins. The encoded protein is secreted through the plasma membrane but remains membrane-bound, where it is involved in lipid transport. Two transcript variants encoding two different isoforms have been found for this gene, but only one of them has been fully characterized.
