Alternate Names for Annexin A1 Antibody (ANEX 5E4/1)
Background
Annexin I belongs to a family of Ca(2+)-dependent phospholipid binding proteins which have a molecular weight of approximately 35,000 to 40,000 and are preferentially located on the cytosolic face of the plasma membrane. Annexin I has phospholipase A2 inhibitory activity, promotes membrane fusion and is involved in exocytosis. Since phospholipase A2 is required for the biosynthesis of the potent mediators of inflammation, prostaglandins and leukotrienes, annexin I may have potential anti-inflammatory activity.
Annexin 1 was found to be one of the most highly upregulated genes in hairy cell leukemia. Immunostaining using antibody directed against Annexin A1 protein may prove useful in the diagnosis of hairy cell leukemia.
