Background

5HT1B is a 7TM receptor for serotonin and is expressed on striatal neurons and Purkinje cells in the cerebellum. 5HT1B ligation inhibits glycinergic signaling, appetite, circadian rhythm light responsiveness, and trigeminal-mediated nociception. It is an important pharmacologic target in the treatment of migrane headaches. Human 5HT1B shares 92% aa sequence identity with mouse and rat 5HT1B.
