RENT1 (regulator of nonsense transcripts 1) is a group 1 RNA helicase, RNA-binding protein whose RNA-binding activity is modulated by ATP. It enters the nucleus where it influences early events in mRNA biogenesis. It functions in NMD (non-sense-mediated mRNA decay) in mammalian cells, ridding cells of aberrant mRNAs containing premature termination codons.
